  4. Place a spoonful of filling (such as cheese, sauerkraut, or meat) in the center of each circle.
  5. Fold the dough in half and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  6. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pierogi in batches for about 5 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  7. In a separate pan, melt the butter and sauté the onion until golden brown.
  8. Serve the pierogi hot, topped with sautéed onions and a dollop of sour cream.
